Excursions in Cozumel

An island paradise off the Riviera Maya, Cozumel is famous for world-class diving and snorkeling on the Mesoamerican Reef. Quieter than Cancun, it offers beach clubs, cruise port buzz, and easy ferry access to Playa del Carmen.

Price Range

$20 - $150+ per activity

Destination

Cozumel, Mexico

Cozumel excursions are dominated by diving and snorkeling, with beach clubs, island tours, and ferry trips to Playa del Carmen as easy add-ons. The reef is the main draw; land-based activities complement it.

Diving and Snorkeling

The Mesoamerican Reef offers world-class diving. Reef snorkel trips run $30-60; two-tank dives $80-120. Palancar, Santa Rosa, and other sites suit different levels. Whale sharks (seasonal) are a premium experience.

Beach Clubs and East Coast

Beach clubs on the west coast offer day passes (food/drink minimum). The east coast has wild beaches and a few laid-back spots. Rent a car or scooter to explore.

Playa del Carmen and Mainland

The ferry to Playa del Carmen runs frequently. From there you can join Tulum, cenotes, or Coba tours. Allow a full day if you cross to the mainland.

Insider Tips

  • Book diving with a well-reviewed operator
  • Snorkel from the shore at some spots to save
  • East coast beaches are less developed — take supplies
  • Ferry + mainland tours are a long day — start early
