Destination
Cancun, Mexico
Cancun and the Riviera Maya offer some of the most diverse excursion options in Mexico. From ancient Mayan ruins to underground rivers, world-class snorkeling, and thrilling adventure parks, there's something for every type of traveler.
Archaeological Sites
Chichén Itzá (one of the New Seven Wonders of the World) is the most popular day trip from Cancun, about 2.5 hours each way. Tulum's clifftop ruins overlooking the Caribbean are closer (2 hours) and equally stunning. Cobá offers the chance to climb an ancient pyramid in the jungle. Independent visits cost $5-15 entry; guided tours run $60-120.
Water Activities
Snorkeling at the MUSA underwater museum, swimming with whale sharks (June-September), diving the Great Mesoamerican Reef, and exploring cenotes (natural sinkholes) are all world-class experiences. Isla Mujeres snorkeling trips start at $30-50 per person.
Adventure Parks
Xcaret, Xel-Há, and Xplor are the big three eco-adventure parks. They're not cheap ($100-130 per person) but include all activities, food, and drinks. Book online in advance for 10-15% discounts.
